Logic Pro features an extensive Sound Library of Apple Loops, patches, drum kits, and other content that you can use in your projects. When you install Logic Pro, essential sounds and instruments are included as part of the installation. Additional content is available to download after the installation is complete.
You can view available content and select content to download in the Sound Library Manager. Some items in the Sound Library Manager have a disclosure triangle, which you can click to show and select individual content types to download. You can also download updated sounds and reinstall the complete Sound Library using the Sound Library Manager. Updated sounds are indicated in the Sound Library Manager and can be downloaded.
Some additional content can also be downloaded directly in the Library and the Loop Browser.
Additional content is required to use some sounds and other features. When you select an item that requires additional content, a dialog appears, asking if you want to download the content. In the Library and the Loop Browser, items with content not yet installed include a Download button that allows you to download the needed content directly.

Deleting Logic Pro content
You can view and delete Logic Pro content by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu, clicking Storage, then clicking the Manage button for your system storage drive. Content for Logic Pro (as well as other music creation applications, including GarageBand and MainStage) is listed in the Music Creation section. You can view the capacity of the Instrument Library and Apple Loops library (as well as the Learn To Play lessons used by GarageBand) and delete each of these items.
If you delete Logic Pro content that is required for a patch or software instrument, Logic Pro prompts you to re-download that content the next time you try to use the patch or instrument.

While additional content is downloading, a progress bar appears in the lower part of the LCD. You can view more detailed information about the progress of the download by clicking the progress bar.

![]() Reinstall the Sound Library
The Sound Library contains all the sounds for the software instruments included with Logic Pro and MainStage. If you've installed Logic Pro and MainStage on the same Mac, both apps share the same Sound Library. When you move the Sound Library, it moves the Sound Library for both apps. Only the Sound Library is moved—Apple Loops and Impulse responses stay in their original locations on your Mac.*
* Third-party content doesn't move when you relocate the Sound Library. If you want to move third-party content, check with the manufacturer for their recommendations.
Move the Sound Library to an external drive
You can move the Sound Library to an external drive from Logic Pro or MainStage.
You can't share a Sound Library between Mac computers. If you have more than one Mac running Logic Pro or MainStage, each Mac needs its own Sound Library.
You can’t store your library on an external drive or other disk used for Time Machine backups.
Move the Sound Library back to your Mac
After you've moved the Sound Library to an external drive, you might want to move it back to your Mac. For example, you might have a performance and you don't want to bring an external drive.

When you download additional Sound Library content for Logic Pro or MainStage from Apple, it's installed in the new location. To download additional content, choose Logic Pro X > Open the Sound Library, select the content you want to download, then click Install. Or, to install all content, click Select All Uninstalled, then click Install.
If the drive with the Sound Library is disconnected
If you open Logic Pro or MainStage without the external drive containing the Sound Library, you can choose what you want to do.
